Course Overview

This qualification provides learners with an in-depth understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people in school and college environments. It covers all aspects of specialist support including planning, delivering, and reviewing assessment strategies to support learning alongside the teacher; bilingual support; special needs support; and personal development and reflective practice.

Who Is It Suitable For?

This qualification is aimed at learners working in roles that offer specialist support for pupils’ learning in primary, secondary or special schools, as well as colleges.


Work Placement Requirement

Do you need to be working to take the qualification? Yes, learners must be working or on a practical placement during the course to show competence in both knowledge and skills. It is recommended that learners undertake a total of 200 placement hours (including 100 hours additional to the certificate level) in a real work environment.


Duration

You can usually complete the course in 1 year to 18 months.

This qualification is part of the new suite of Supporting Teaching and Learning qualifications. It can contribute towards the Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship Standard and carries UCAS points. Qualification nesting and top-up options are available through the NCFE Portal.
